This course will show you how to access and use Office 365 and Microsoft Teams - Gower College Swansea's core e-learning platform. In addition to face to face classes, students will be expected to use Office 365 to produce their coursework and Microsoft Teams to attend online classes, take part in discussions and submit their assignments etc....

Overview of Office 365

In this video we will explain how to access your college Office 365 account via the College Website/Student Portal and give you a quick overview of all of the applications that are available for you to use including:
- Word - Word Processing
- Excel - Spreadsheets
- PowerPoint - Presentations
- Outlook - Emails
- OneDrive - File Storage
- OneNote - Course Materials and Notes
- Sway - Online Presentations
- Forms - Quizzes and Surveys
- Teams - Live Classes and Assignments

Overview of Teams
-
In this video we will show you how to access Microsoft Teams in a browser and/or install the app on your computer, tablet or phone from the relevant Apple, Android or Windows store. Once installed you can browse:
- Courses - Your courses
- Activities - Your messages and notifications
- Chats - Your posts and discussions
- Assignments - Your homework/coursework
Once inside a course you are then able to access:
- Channels - Different topics or groups
- Posts - Messages and discussion
- Files - Course materials
- Class Notebook - Notes and handouts
- Assignments - Submitted coursework and grades

Joining a Live Class
-
In this video we will show you how to join a live class on Microsoft Teams. To join a class you need to:
- Open the course the class is scheduled to take place in
- Click on the Join button when it appears in the channel
- Set up/choose your camera and mic
- Click on Join Now
Once in the meeting you are then able to:
- Talk to/see the teacher and other students
- Send messages or file attachments in the chat
- Put you hand up or post emojis
- Mute/unmute your camera and/or mic as requested by the teacher
When the class is finished the teacher will end the meeting, or you can click on Leave to exit the meeting.

Messages and Attachments

In this video we will show you how to post messages and attachments to Microsoft Teams. You can post
- Plain or formatted text messages
- Hyperlinks to websites
- File attachments
- Pictures
- YouTube videos
Any files or images you post will automatically be stored in the Files tab of the channel.

File Management
-
In this video we will show you how to manage files in Microsoft Teams.
The Class Materials folder contains files uploaded by the teacher. Students can read and download these files but they cannot edit or delete them.
Students are allowed to upload, edit and delete files to/in any other folders.
Each individual channel within a Team as its own separate Files tab, but the read only Class Materials folder only appears in the General channel.

Class Notebook

In this video we will show you how to use Class Notebooks in Microsoft Teams.
Class Notebook is a digital textbook/notepad where teachers can upload materials for you to read and you are able to take notes and complete homework assignments. Class Notebooks has four Sections:
Collaboration Space - This is a section where you can work on documents with other students.
Content Library - This is where the teacher will upload materials for you to read.
Teacher Only - Only teachers can see/read materials in the section.
Student Folder - This is where you can take your own notes and complete assignments. Only you and the teacher can see your personal folder. Students cannot see/read each others personal folders.

Submitting Assignments

In this video we will show you how to upload an assignment to Microsoft Teams. You will be notified when your teacher sets an assignment and when you open it you can see the details:
- Title - Name of the assignment
- Due Date - Date when assignment is due
- Instructions - Special Instructions
- Resources - Materials provided by the teacher
- Points/Mark Scheme - Points available and grading criteria
You then have the option to upload your work from OneDrive or your own device and submit it. When the teacher has marked and returned it to you you will be notified and given:
- Your grade/points
- Teacher feedback
- Your assignment with comments/annotations
Your teacher might allow you to resubmit assignments if the due date hasn't passed.
