Welcome to this short introduction to Geology course. This will help to prepare you when you start you start learning the wonderful new subject of Geology with Gower College Swansea!

Video #1: What is Geology?
Here’s a quick summary of the things covered in the film:
- The materials that make up the Earth-this includes the huge variety of minerals and rocks.
- Features such as Folds and Faults – which are everywhere in our landscape if you know how to look. Pairs of normal faults in Grovesend to the huge saucer shaped fold across the whole of South Wales.
- Celestial Geology – Meteorites & Planets including comparisons with the Earth in terms of its structure.
- The history of life – The study of fossil such as dinosaurs & ammonites
- Natural Hazards – Volcanoes & Earthquakes and how we are becoming more educated at protecting and predicting these killer events.
- Resources – The discovery of precious metals and clean water in a sustainable way.

The famous Gulf of Mexico gives direct evidence for the extra-terrestrial impact that caused a mass extinction that included the destruction of the dinosaurs.
