Welcome to this short introduction to Electronics. This will help to prepare you for when you start your course with us at Gower College Swansea, as well as giving you an opportunity to brush up on some of your skills!
An important part of Digital Electronics is the understanding of Logic gates.:
You will need to know the names of the different types of gate (7 of them)
How they behave - A truth table does this
How all the other logic gates can be made using only NAND gates
What the Boolean Expressions for these gates are
This will help to prepare you when you start learning Electronics at Gower College Swansea.

Video #1: Logic Gates - An Introduction To Digital Electronics - PyroEDU
Video #2: How to create common Logic Gates using only NAND gates
Why the NAND gate is so popular, because you can easily create every Logic Gate. Inexpensive and easy to use. This video shows you how to create every basic digital Logic gate using the NAND gate. No need to buy so many different gates when you are simply breadboard prototyping. Make the AND NAND OR NOR XOR XNOR NOT/Inverter Gates.
Video #3: Logic Gate Combinations
This video follows on from the video that introduces logic gates. It covers creating truth tables for combinations of simple logic gates, including a mention of some well used combinations. Combinations of logic gates manipulate pulses of electricity, and because these pulses represent binary 1s and 0’s, combinations of logic gates can perform useful data operations such as comparing values, performing arithmetic and even storing data. Being able to create truth tables for combinations of logic gates is an extremely important aspect of computer circuit design, because truth tables can help us to see how circuits work.
